YOUTH PROGRAMS
 
 

Flag FootballFlag Football

This program is for students 5-11 years of age.  The program is for both boys and girls.  Players will be put on teams coached by parent volunteers.  All players will receive an NFL jersey, certificate of excellence, and mouthpiece.  The program is held during the months of September and October.

Youth Volleyball

This program is for students in grades 3rd-6th.  Program consists of instruction on fundamentals and practices as well as some controlled game play.  The program is held during the months of September and October.

Little Tykes Basketball

Children 4 years old - 2nd grade will participate in the Little Tykes Program that meets during the months of January and February.  Players will be coached by Nevada Parks and Recreation staff and parent volunteers.

Star Extreme

Star Extreme is a program of Tumbling, Trampoline and Double-Mini.  Programs are available for participants ages 2-18.  Classes will be held for sub-beginners to intermediate and up.  All levels will work on conditioning, strengthening, and technique.  Coaches for this program are Desiree Castillo and Deb Butterfield.

Breakfast with SantaJunior Theatre

Junior Theatre is a program for students in K-6th grade wanting to explore the world of fine arts.  Students will perform a fun and age appropriate play written by the participants that will be presented during the Festival of Trees Celebration, held during the month of December.

Baseball/Softball

Baseball and Softball programs are available for students 4 years of age - 6th grade.  Programs  include Blastball, Coach Pitch T-Ball, Pee Wee Baseball and Softball, and County League Baseball and Softball.  Baseball and Softball programs are held during May, June, and July. Registration deadlines are in March.

Nevada Parks & Rec KarateRyuKyu Kempo Karate

Ryukyu Kempo Karate instruction focuses on “The Old Way” of teaching.  First, focus on building students of strong moral character without commercialization, egos, or unrealistic theories.  What follows is the ability to learn a true method of life protection using authentic methods often lost in today’s arts.  Classes are fun, thought provoking, and an excellent family activity. 

Nevada Parks & Rec KarateClasses are taught by Shihan Anthony Rhoad.  Shihan Rhoad is a long time practitioner of Ryukyu Kempo Karate, and trainer of multiple law enforcement agencies and youth programs.  Shihan Rhoad is a member of Dickey’s Karate and the United Ryukyu Kempo Alliance.  The United Ryukyu Kempo Alliance is:

  • An Organization formed to bring sincere martial artist together in brotherhood
  • A group of martial artist who believe in the traditional concept of one heart, one mind and one spirit who uplift each other with support and pride in friendship.
  • An Alliance of Karate practitioners who unite together to represent and promote all that is good in traditional karate. 

Ryukyu Kempo will be held on Monday evenings throughout the year in 6-week sessions.  Participants must start at the beginning of a session.

Little Ninja

The Little Ninja program is for children 4-6 years of age.  This program will provide an early childhood martial arts experience that will fit the appropriate age level of young students.  The program will be held in 6 week sessions throughout the year on Monday’s from 5 - 5:30 p.m. at Gates Memorial Hall.

Breakfast with Santa

The Nevada Parks & Recreation Department has invited Santa Claus to breakfast.  Come enjoy a craft and Christmas activities all while having breakfast with the man in the big red suit!  We will be taking Polaroid pictures of your child with Santa.

Festival of Trees

Festival of Trees is held the second full weekend of December each year. Person’s attending will get the opportunity to marvel at beautifully decorated Christmas Trees and vote for the best decorated tree.  For more information on entering a tree, please contact Nevada Parks and Recreation at 382-4352.

Hershey Track and Field Meet

Nevada Parks and Recreation will be sponsoring the Hershey Track and Field meet.  Participants have the opportunity to advance to state and nationals in this yearly event.

Walk-N-Rock

Nevada Parks and Recreation will once again be offering our Walk-n-Rock Program for students in Central Elementary.

  • Program information available early fall.
