The Mayor is the executive and ceremonial head of the City government and presides at all meetings of the City Council. The Mayor may break a tie vote on limited motions not involving ordinances, resolutions, or appointments made by the Council alone. He may also sign, veto, or take no action on an ordinance, amendment or resolution passed by the council.

The City Council is the legislative body of the City government and determines all matters of City policy. The Council is made up of six Council members. The council has the authority to appoint the City Administrator, City Clerk, and City Attorney. The Council may also override the Mayor's veto by a two-thirds majority vote.
