Nevada Trickling Filter Rehibilitation Project

NEVADA TRICKLING FILTER REHABILITATION PROJECT

Design work for the Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF) Trickling Filter Rehabilitation project is ongoing.  The engineer, Howard R. Green Company, anticipates 90% completion documents in mid-August with final design completion in early September.  Bidding is anticipated to take place in the fall.  The construction schedule for this project will be during the winter months of 2009-2010 with a process startup in the spring.

The Trickling Filter Rehabilitation project will involve the removal of the rock media and underdrain system inside the 105-foot diameter trickling filter and replacing it with a plastic media and new underdrain system.  New forced air ventilation will be installed.  The other major portion of the work includes replacing the rotating arm assembly inside the trickling filter which distributes the wastewater to the process.  The trickling filter is located at the south end of the wastewater treatment facility.

These improvements are needed because the media and under-drain system was installed in the early 60's and is deteriorating.  The distributor arms were installed in the mid 80's and also are showing signs of deterioration, generally 20 years is the life expectancy of this type of equipment.

The trickling filter structure is covered by an aluminum dome.  Due to the size of the dome and the limited open area around the structure, it is anticipated that the dome will remain in place during the demolition and construction work.  The disposal of the rock media will be on City property accessible only from the wastewater treatment plant drive. Traffic impacts are not anticipated from construction vehicles.
